Upcoming Releases

Every month, I'll give a little summary of upcoming releases for the next month which are being hotly anticipated by us lil' monkeys over here. As it is possible to get most stuff on import, I won't be including anything like that on here. For example, Sound Team's excellent Movie Monster album will not be on here as despite its U.K release date only being this month, I have had it for some time.

So here is the inaugural selection for September:

(mostly British release dates but any only available on import (for us Brits) will be indicated for my homeboys/girls)

Sept. 4th
Grizzly Bear - Yellow House
Ray Lamontagne - Till The Sun Turns Black (import only)
Pinback - Nautical Antiques (b-sides collection)

Sept. 11th
Black Keys - Magic Potion
Catfish Haven - Tell Me
DJ Shadow - The Outsider
The Fratellis - Costello Music
Liam Frost & The Slowdown Family - Show Me How
Magnolia Electric Company - Fading Trails
Mars Volta - Amputechre
The Rapture - Pieces Of People We Love
Justin Timberlake - FutureSex/LoveSounds
Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass

Sept. 18th
Get Cape Wear Cape Fly - The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager
Joseph Arthur - Nuclear Daydream
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - Then The Letting Go
Ben Kweller - Ben Kweller
Nina Nastasia - On Leaving

Sept. 25th
Solomon Burke - Nashville
Lemonheads - Lemonheads
Sean Lennon - Friendly Fire
Scissor Sisters - Ta-Dah
Sparklehorse - Dreamt For Light Years In The Belly Of A Mountain

Especially looking forward to new Joseph Arthur album after seeing his ridiculously great live show last year.

For a more comprehensive list, visit the fabulous Metacritic. Any I have missed may/may not have been missed on purpose. Therefore, due to this enigmatic and unsolvable dilemma and lack of culpability, I cannot be blamed. YES!! I win again!!

Seriously though, if there are any other really cool albums not mentioned on Metacritic or here coming out in September, don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Ryan O'Reilly & The Raindogs

For our first post, we thought we should give a shout out to a good friend of ours, the unsigned U.K folker Ryan O'Reilly. A huge Dylan fan, his work more recalls Ryan Adams circa-Heartbreaker in its wrenching emotional beauty while also occasionally evoking other baron troubadours like Townes Van Zandt and up to Damien Jurado.

He has just released a brand new record called In The Shadows And The Neon (his myspace has some of tracks from here for streaming) and can be seen around the Southampton area most weeks.

Check out these tracks then get yourself over to iTunes, CDBaby or one of his gigs to pick up the record.

Also, as a quick disclaimer, even though we know and like this gentleman, this is not why we love his music. Even if he was Hitler reincarnated, the guy has got some talent and deserves to rise above the evolutional flood of Americana pretenders. Give him the time and attention he deserves and the afterlife I'm sure will reward such good judgement.

Ryan O'Reilly - Think About Me (from Ryan O'Reilly) - V. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Ryan O'Reilly - I Know That I'll Have Nightmares (from Ryan O'Reilly & The Raindogs Vol. 1)

HELLO!!

HELLO EVERYBODY!!! Welcome to our new format for rambling foolishness and various media related news and reviews. This is Plattenspieler 2: The Blog. After running out of space on our previous website incarnation (here) we decided to cut free of contractual shackles and do the rest for free on here, making the whole operation easier and more managable.

It will take a little time to get everything done and truly good but for now we'll just be posting the odd little bit here and there with some reviews, recommendations etc. before eventually moving on to downloads and other little bits and pieces.

Until then though, remember us and call on us now and again, we swear you will be more than welcome. See y'all soon.
